Heritage repair is a discipline of restraint. Do enough to secure the fabric and no more. We work with the materials the wall was built with — lime, matched stone, matched brick — and finish the repair so it reads as part of the original building.
This applies equally to a cracked lintel, a lost cill, a section of failed brickwork or a full elevation. The principle is the same: understand it first, then repair it in kind.
